Back

back - digital physiotherapy program

The back extends from the neck to the lower spine and is made up of the spine, muscles, nerves, and ligaments that provide structure, movement, and support.

Structure

The spine consists of 33-34 small bones, called vertebrae, separated by discs that act as shock absorbers and allow flexibility and movement.Surrounding muscles and tendons help stabilize the spine, support posture, and protect the spinal cord.

Common Back Conditions

Back pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal issues and can arise from many causes, including poor posture, muscle tension, overuse, disc herniation, or degenerative conditions such as arthritis or osteoporosis.

Symptoms can range from mild discomfort to severe pain and may also include stiffness, numbness, or muscle weakness.

Treatment

Treatment depends on the cause and severity of the symptoms. Physiotherapy and targeted exercises often play an important role in restoring mobility and strength. Other treatment approaches may include manual therapy, massage, acupuncture, pain management, injection therapy, or, in rare cases, surgery.

Prevention

To help prevent back pain, it’s important to maintain good posture, strengthen the back and core muscles, and avoid heavy lifting or sudden movements. Regular physical activity and awareness of your posture and movement patterns throughout the day can reduce the risk of developing back problems.

If you experience persistent or severe back pain, it’s important to consult a physiotherapist, chiropractor, or other healthcare professional for assessment and treatment. Early diagnosis and intervention can help prevent complications and support a faster recovery.
